Council Member Restler Introduces Resolution Defending Canada
Restler introduces a resolution defending Canada against hostile rhetoric from the White House, highlighting Canada as a major trading partner and source of tourism and culture for New York City.
Thank you so much to the briefly interim majority leader.
I firstly just want to associate myself with the moving remarks by Councilmember Joseph.
And I don't introduce very many resolutions, but I felt moved to...
Introduce a resolution defending Canada.
I love you, Jim.
My mom is from Montreal, and yeah, you could tell.
It does.
It adds up.
But the White House's just stupidly hostile rhetoric toward Canada has made zero sense.
Canada is among our city's largest trading partners.
12% of exports from New York City go to Canada.
16% of imports come from Canada.
They are the second largest source of tourists into New York City.
They have sent us many...
Very talented comedians and a couple good singers and and lots of great New Yorkers who are Canadian Americans
I think it's important as our cities as our nation's economic and cultural capital that we stand up and say that we respect our neighbors and we value
the relationship and that we condemn
just the needless hostility that the president has been displaying toward our friends up north.
And I hope folks will sign on and that we can pass it.
Thank you very much.
Thank you, Council Member.
