Christopher Leon Johnson supports Intro 352 and battery safety
Christopher Leon Johnson supports Intro 352 on micromobility battery disposal and calls for cracking down on unsafe, converted e-bike batteries. He suggests placing a battery disposal bin outside the delivery hub as a model and says e-bikes are needed but dangerous batteries must be addressed.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Thanks, Amanda.
Yeah.
Hello, Councilman Sanchez.
My name is Christopher Leon Johnson.
I support Intro 352 when it comes to micro-ability devices.
I know this was his last session, but it didn't go through.
And I know why.
It's because of those people right outside that La Rista hub, and they're opposing that bill because they know that with New York City sanitation police, if they start enforcing it, there's a lot that the mayor or the office cannot do because sanitation is sanitation, and sanitation doesn't grade.
job when it comes to enforcing the vendors in certain places.
I want to say this right now that going forward, the city council needs to find ways to ban those time bomb batteries that you see on the bikes that you can tell that's been like converted to make the bike go faster.
That need to be a more direct target.
In the city council when it comes to mitigating the battery problem in the city of New York.
Like I said before, e-bikes are needed in the city, but the biggest problem in the city of New York are these old school batteries, bikes that they wrap around the bike and you put the little old school battery on it, it makes it go faster.
You see like Mexico, you see like Ecuador, you see all those countries put their little stickers on the battery.
And those guys, they feel comfortable riding those bikes.
But those bikes and those batteries are like time bombs.
You hit them, oh, hell break loose.
We see all the depth that's going on in the city.
Going forward, I hope that if this bill goes through, they need to allocate some money and put one of those bins right outside of the Delirium Hub to make it a prime example.
And very, like I said, make a prime example where the work of Judge Pryor said, look, if you guys want to keep on getting government funding, you need to put one of those bins right outside your office and start pushing it to the people that's coming to your office.
So like I said before many times, guys, look, that's the problem that's in New York.
Like I said, I'm not against migrants.
I'm not against deliverers.
I love them.
But the biggest thing in the city is those.
Particular bikes that we need to
start cracking down on is to the point we got to start compensating those bikes and batteries.
So I support this bill 100% and I hope this goes through.
But put the bill up.
Thank you.
