Sanchez asks about solutions to decrease truck traffic in designated CDs
Sanchez asks what other solutions DSNY has considered to decrease truck traffic in the four designated districts. Anderson says commercial waste zones are the most effective tool and that relocating transfer capacity would require rezoning industrial areas or building new transfer stations.
Particularly in the four designated CDs, has DSNY considered any other solutions to decrease truck traffic?
We've, you know, I think the implementation of commercial waste zones is the most effective tool that we can use to reduce truck traffic.
You know, I think absent rezoning new parts of the city for industrial uses and opening new transfer stations in those rezoned places,
I think it will be very difficult to meaningfully relocate transfer station capacity out of those four districts and into other parts of the city.
The best we could do is just shift the burden elsewhere onto environmental justice neighborhoods outside of New York City.
And I don't know that that's necessarily a great outcome, but that's certainly what Local Law 152 has done.
Not the best outcome.
Not everyone wants stuff in other EJ zones, but if it's not in the Bronx, it's good to me.
Actually, I will turn it over to Councilmember Ressler.
