Hudson asks DCAS about employee survey participation rate
Council Member Crystal Hudson asks what percentage of the workforce the 16,000 survey respondents represent and what DCAS is doing to boost participation; Porter says the survey runs on a two-year cadence and the next is due in 2027.
Thank you so much, Chair.
Just a quick question for you, Deputy Commissioner Porter, about...
The survey, the voluntary employee survey, you said 16,000 employees took the survey.
Out of how many total, or do you know what percentage?
So the survey was released to all New York City employees.
We marketed the survey through agency personnel officers.
I believe we went direct to the employee as well to provide them with the link and an opportunity to take the survey.
And that was the population that actually responded.
Do you know what percentage of the total workforce, the 16,000?
Employees are?
Oh, that's a good question.
Let's see if we have that.
And I guess while you do that, I'm also curious to know what efforts you're taking to get more participation in that survey.
So the survey is on a two-year cadence.
So we look at this as like the benchmark survey.
And so the next time that we have to administer the survey, we will try to do more marketing and get folks more excited about sharing their experience with us.
But that should be in 27, right?
The next survey?
Yeah.
And do you have a goal for how much participation you would like to see?
If this is the benchmark?
So we're currently figuring out that statistics, and one of the things that we're looking at is the timeline that we release the survey.
This is a survey that also goes out to the Department of Education.
And so within the law, we were required to release it by September.
We made some adjustments to make sure that we're able to get the teachers in, and so we're looking at the timeline.
If there's an earlier timeline that we can issue the survey, that would allow us to have more opportunity to market it and to reach the entire population.
And so we're developing our strategies and thinking about that now, although the survey is not due until next year before September.
Thank you.
And, Councilmember, we can follow up with you on that percentage.
We don't have that available.
