Menin cites safety risks and rejects AI self-regulation
Menin says experts and public remain apprehensive about AI safety risks and companies, that answers last week reinforced need for safeguards, and that self-regulation is not supported.
We were the first legislative body in the country that heard from the leading companies on their models that have captured as much attention as they have concern across the globe.
As we heard from both experts and the public, there is good reason to remain apprehensive about some of the safety risks around artificial intelligence as well as the companies behind these AI models.
The answers, quite frankly, that we received from last week's hearing only reinforce the
for responsible safeguards to prevent harm.
And the idea that the companies would self-regulate is not a concept that we support at all.
