Commissioner Vij introduces DCLA testimony on CreateNYC's 10-year review
Commissioner Diya Vij thanks SIAP, introduces herself, and says she will reflect on what worked, what didn't, and what DCLA is doing now to address CreateNYC's bolder ideas.
Thank you.
Hello, everyone.
First of all, just very grateful for Mark and Susan.
Thank you for that.
Good afternoon, Deputy Speaker, Dr.
Williams, and members of the committee.
I'm Dia Vidge, Commissioner of Cultural Affairs for the City of New York.
I'm here to testify on today's topic, What's Next for Create NYC, and I'm joined by several members of my team from the agency.
I'm excited to be with you here today in part because the 2017 Create NYC Cultural Plan coincided with my first stint at Cultural Affairs.
I learned so much that I still carry with me from supporting the team that built the original plan.
A very small group of us then condensed those hundreds of strategies into the 2019 Action Plan.
Broadly speaking, Create NYC has proven to have great impact where it set strong, broad strategies that could guide agency efforts around equity.
It fell short when it named dozens of discrete programs at varying scales and created indicators that proved hard to implement or track.
Today, I want to reflect honestly on 10 years of the Create NYC plan by examining what worked, what didn't, and what we're doing in the present day to address some of its bolder, more evergreen ideas.
