IBO reports geographic inequities in CDF grantee locations and programs
Armbruster says 60% of grantees are based in Manhattan and 63% of funding goes to them, 74% of grantees planned programs in Manhattan, and planned CDF programs are not equitably distributed across boroughs.
Another aim of Create NYC is to improve cultural access, one component of which is geographic proximity.
Because grantees provide programs at their headquarters and across the city, IBO looked at both where grantees are based and where they plan CDF programs.
IBO found that 60% of grantees were based in Manhattan and 63% of...
Percent of funding went to those grantees.
While Manhattan-based organizations do plan CDF programs outside of Manhattan, they do not do so at higher rates than grantees based in some of the other boroughs.
For example, 43% of Manhattan grantees plan CDF programs outside of Manhattan, while 48% of Brooklyn grantees plan CDF programs outside of Brooklyn.
Additionally, some grantees from outside of Manhattan plan programs in Manhattan.
Across all grantees, 74% planned CDF programs in Manhattan.
Grantees' planned programs may differ for where programs ultimately occurred.
IBO is currently analyzing CDF program location data as part of this series.
Still, these initial findings suggest that planned CDF programs are not equitably distributed across the five boroughs.
