Epstein asks about trash and recycling at takeout establishments
Epstein asks about recycling and trash issues around takeout locations and whether missing bins are a health department matter. Schiff says DOHMH inspects trash handling that could cause pests inside restaurants, but curb trash may involve another agency, and she will follow up for more detail.
And just just in this lane, we've also heard around kind of the food safety issue around.
Not having enough recycling and trash for takeout locations.
Have you heard that as an issue?
And what does the health department do about ensuring cleanliness around and in front of the food safety establishment?
Depending on where the trash is, we will be doing an inspection of
maintaining trash in a way that especially prevents pest conditions in the restaurant.
But if you're talking about how they put trash out on the curb and so on, that may not be the health department.
So maybe we can follow up and get a little more detail about these issues and see where that falls.
And if someone doesn't have a trash can or recycling bin in that takeout establishment, is that an issue that the health department will manage?
So restaurants do have to have containers to maintain their trash in the restaurant.
Okay.
All right.
Thank you, Chair.
