Schulman asks about 90% A-grade plateau
Schulman asks whether the 90% A-grade rate has always been the plateau. Schiff says restaurant grading launched in 2010, with 85% A grades in FY12, rising to 90% now, with some variation around COVID.
Thank you very much.
I'm going to ask a few questions and then I'm going to.
hand it over to my colleagues and then come back.
So to give them an opportunity.
Deputy Commissioner, you said in your testimony that 90% of restaurants have an A.
Has that always been the plateau, or it's been higher, lower?
You want to just go through some of that?
Sure.
So I'll say restaurant grading has been a huge success in New York City in promoting high food safety standards among city restaurants.
Last July, we celebrated our 15th anniversary of this program.
And I did a little looking back in preparation for today.
And in FY12, we started the program in July 2010.
In FY12, 85% of restaurants were posting A grades, and we're now at 90%.
And it stayed about that level.
It's been a little bit higher before COVID, and we've been getting back up to that level.
