Esposito outlines long-term technology fixes for scheduling, AI, and CAD
Esposito says FDNY is replacing its off-the-shelf scheduling program with a bespoke system and is testing artificial intelligence to improve ambulance deployment decisions. He says FDNY continues working with the Office of Technology and Innovation to update the EMS CAD system.
We have also undertaken several long-term potential solutions.
These are changes that require development before becoming fully operational, but they are steps that we are actively exploring or working on.
We are updating the digitized EMS schedule.
FDNY's Bureau of Enterprise Technology is currently working to improve the daily scheduling program that we use for staff scheduling by replacing an off-the-shelf calendar program with
the bespoke product that we've built ourselves, the new scheduling system will be a better fit for our unique needs and operational requirements, enabling the department to more efficiently deploy resources.
We optimize deployment decisions through better technology.
We are testing ways that artificial intelligence technology can help us make more accurate decisions about deploying resources.
While we currently make data-driven decisions to choose ambulance cross-street locations, we are exploring whether newer technology
can be helpful with those decisions, and whether they can be used in a balanced, safe way to yield better outcomes and help us reach patients faster.
As this committee is aware, we continue working with the City's Office of Technology and Innovation to update the EMS CAD system.
We expect that the new system will contain many tools that will improve the way we dispatch resources.
