Narcisse thanks Ranieri and agrees EMS needs real investment
Narcisse thanks Ranieri and says she agrees that the city must invest in EMS at frontline and support levels. Ranieri says even online medical control is often staffed by a single physician, showing how far behind the city is in supporting EMS.
I appreciate it.
I came at the end because I'm between two hearings.
And I have a staff listening, so we can't approach it.
My apology that I have to be in two places at once.
I wish I could clone myself, but I'm so appreciative of it.
Because someone trained for...
Taking care of an acute person is not a police officer.
The police officer have their job, so they can have the CPR to keep you alive until you get the appropriate paramedic to come to take care of the person.
So thank you for sharing.
And you've been here, you've been hearing that we are on your side.
We're trying to make sure we reach, because if...
The staff not feeling good, not seeing the support, not respect, not getting the pay as well, they're not going to be able to give to deliver the care that they need to deliver.
And I'm in agreement with you.
Thank you.
Yeah, absolutely.
It's the position of the council that a real investment needs to be made in EMS at all levels, at the frontline provider levels, but also at the support levels.
Yes.
You know, that includes physician oversight.
Online medical control is often staffed by a single physician.
That's, right, if you get four or five cardiac arrests that are occurring, right, we respond, we heard today, we respond to over 80 of them a day.
If you get two or three of those at a time, that's a single physician providing clinical oversight to two or three calls at a time, in addition to some of the other calls.
Again, these complex patients.
So that's just a microcosm of...
The how far
behind we are in supporting an EMS as a system.
Thank you.
I appreciate you.
No.
Thank you.
And we have been joined by our colleague, Guterres Jen.
Thank you.
