Council Member Hanks asks about North Shore planning and EDC partnership
She describes efforts to turn vacant sites into housing, asks how HPD and DCP can support, and what tools can expedite projects.
Next, we're going to hear from Majority Whip Hanks, followed by Narcisse, Zwang, Brewer, Santuswoso, and Lee.
Thank you, Chair.
Thank you, Ms.
Sherman.
And committee staff, as I said before, we need to think about, you know, developing with a scalpel carefully, targeting developments with all our district needs.
And you can hear that that's...
Mainly what my colleagues are saying.
However, through the North Shore NYC, we're working to turn
vacant and underused sites into better housing, to better access our waterfront, and we want to understand the tools to expedite this process to build homes and our residents that can afford it and have the infrastructure.
To support them for generations.
So many of the projects in my district benefit from EDC stewardship, and I am really proud of that partnership we've implemented to advance the stalled projects and begin new ones.
To this point, we've recently launched a community engagement and neighborhood planning effort to identify the next round of viable projects to continue growing
our pipeline for new housing.
We want this pipeline to be, you know, executable.
We want it to be real.
How are HPD and DCP prepared to support these efforts, my efforts, and put a specific, you know, actions in place to move this, these plans forward?
I mean, I was going to ask the question about the pipeline and staying in the queue because we're now like a decade out on many of those projects that we were really proud to do last term or my predecessor did and we're just now doing these.
So I think that's a really important.
Part of, but it's been asked already and you answered it, so thank you.
But I do want to understand how we can work together, like what are the tools we need?
How could we expedite this?
You know, how do we get the eLERP process when we actually want to build and we have set up this, you know, this relationship with the city and the administration, city council is taking this big step forward.
And how are, what does that reciprocity look like?
How are we working together?
