Sanchez discusses SST results, training hours, and mental health rollout
Shamash notes worker injuries dropped from 759 in 2018 to 266 so far in 2026; Tigani says over 18 million training hours and over 530,000 active cards resulted from the SST program, and that this platform allowed DOB to quickly add mental health and suicide prevention awareness, with Shamash adding nearly 40 million card taps.
Deputy Commissioner Patino, aging that bill really, really paid off.
Absolutely.
That's why I'll mention 2018 because that's when we started implementing site safety training.
Right.
And when you think about the site safety training cards, over 18 million hours of training has come as a result of that work.
Over 960,000 cards, over 530,000 active cards.
And so people are buying into the process.
And because we have that, we were able to have this very easy platform to then think beyond.
As I mentioned in the testimony, beyond just the physical dangers of the workplace and quickly introduce and roll out
mental health and suicide prevention awareness, which is becoming more and more another issue in our job sites.
It's continuing to yield indirect benefits that we didn't expect, which is the ability to go beyond just what we sought out in 2018.
Yeah, thank you.
I think it's really important to just elevate that.
and lift that up and I will do my best to do it.
But we do pass a lot of laws here.
I won't speak to the quality of all of them, but some of them are really, really important and changes, you know, change outcomes dramatically.
I'll just throw out one more stat just because it's an amazing number.
We are close to 40.
Million taps on our SST cards.
That means between the departments, proactive and reactive inspections, but it also means that folks on job sites, construction supers, site safety professionals, the general contractors themselves,
are ensuring 40 million times that the workers going on construction sites have the necessary training.
Thank you.
