Sanchez raises Pfizer column buckling and citywide enforcement blitz
Sanchez describes the buckling of two load-bearing columns on the 21st floor of the former Pfizer headquarters in Midtown, questions whether corners were cut, and notes DOB's swift response and subsequent citywide enforcement blitz whose results she wants discussed.
Recent high-profile incidents also highlight the need for continued evaluation of our city's construction safety standards.
The buckling of two load-bearing columns in the 21st floor of the former Pfizer headquarters in Midtown raised significant concerns about whether corners were cut,
which unsafe conditions were first identified, what scope of work was approved, how the city can ensure this never happens again.
I'm thankful for DOB's swift response to ensure the safety of all of the New Yorkers in the surrounding area, but the incident was serious enough to prompt a citywide enforcement blitz from the department,
the results of which we will also be wanting to discuss during today's hearing.
