Hudson questions Dalton on street homelessness and safe haven plan
Hudson asks for the timeline on the long-term shelter capacity plan and safe haven sites; Dalton says a homelessness plan is forthcoming within a year and the city is not actively considering new sites until then.
Thank you so much, Chair Murano.
A few questions.
Questions I'd like to veer towards street homelessness and safe havens.
I understand that although we're nearly one year into this new administration, DHS is not actively considering new locations for street homeless sites, such as safe havens and drop-in centers, until the administration releases a long-term shelter capacity plan.
What's the timeline for release of that plan so that we can continue long-term efforts to address street homelessness?
Thank you for that question.
And street homelessness and our unsheltered New Yorkers are my top priority.
And I would not say that we are not actively looking at bringing on additional safe haven beds.
But you are correct.
We have in the block by block report, we announced that there would be a homelessness plan within the next year.
And we are working on that homelessness plan, which would include, of course, a plan for our unsheltered neighbors.
