Remarks

Morano gives closing remarks and adjourns hearing

New York City Council · Oct 21, 2026 · starts 5:00:18 · 2 min 31 sec

Morano thanks Hudson, Wong, the administration, and the public, says homelessness is complex, commits to legislative clarification on council shelter visits, and adjourns the hearing.

Frank Morano

I, again, want to thank Chair Hudson for her partnership and her diligence in this oversight topic and this hearing.

Frank Morano

And as comes as no surprise to any of us that follow his city council career,

Frank Morano

I want to especially acknowledge once again Councilmember Wong as being the only non-chair that stays till the very end of this hearing.

Frank Morano

He is a model public servant.

Frank Morano

And if there's any justice in the world, all of his birthday wishes will come true today and always.

Frank Morano

I do hope that this is not even close to the end of the discussion of the work that we're doing on veteran homelessness and in looking at a lot of the important legislation that we reviewed today.

Frank Morano

Homelessness is a complex problem, veteran homelessness even more so.

Frank Morano

And I really appreciate where everyone came from today, both physically in some cases and emotionally in others and in terms of their experiential journey.

Frank Morano

I think we all want to get to the same place, even if we have a lot of different perspectives as to how to get there.

Frank Morano

And as long as I have the good fortune of chairing this committee, I'm committed.

Frank Morano

to making sure that we do get there.

Frank Morano

So my thanks to the administration, particularly Commissioner Dalton and Commissioner Mata, and my thanks especially to everyone that testified.

Frank Morano

And again, I can't stress enough to the public that if you didn't have an opportunity to testify today,

Frank Morano

Send us your testimony in writing.

Frank Morano

It'll absolutely be included in the record.

Frank Morano

And as the committee prepares a report about today's hearing, it'll absolutely be included as we make decisions about how to pursue different recommendations.

Frank Morano

You know, one thing that I think is certainly calling out for.

Frank Morano

Legislative clarification is when council members can visit Borden Avenue and shelters in general.

Frank Morano

I think a lot of my colleagues who may agree on very little all agree that council members have an important oversight role to play, and we'll work to clarify that in terms of legislative language.

Frank Morano

With that, I'm grateful to everyone who attended today's hearing, grateful to everyone who watched, and with that, this hearing is now adjourned.
