Wong questions Dalton on library access at Borden
Wong says the library funded by his predecessor was closed during his visit; Dalton says the library is lovely and functioning and a movie was announced there last night, while Wong says residents told a different story.
Thank you, Chair.
My predecessor, Robert Holden, he funded the computers in the library.
He funded the books there.
When I visited the site with Councilmember Julie Wan, the room was closed.
And then I spoke to the residents, why is it closed?
Well,
They didn't give a reason.
So can you tell me why is it closed and they have no access to the room?
I can report on what I saw and what I heard last night.
So the library is lovely, well-functioning.
There's a nice table, there's some nice seated chairs, and there are books around the corners, around the walls.
That is the place that I held a listening session with residents, and they absolutely came in and out and used that room.
Also, last night, when I was with Chair Hudson on an unannounced visit, there was a, I heard over the loudspeaker, an announcement that a movie was being shown in the library.
And so those two things indicate.
to me that the library is very much functioning and in use.
Okay, so you're telling me that residents do have access to the library as well as the materials inside?
That is my understanding, and my testimony is based on those two things.
I did find the 911 for you if you'd like it.
All right, well...
I was told a very different story that they have no access.
So if I'm glad that these visits will allow these facilities to be open again, that's good news, right?
So that's my question, Chair.
Thank you.
Thank you.
