Permission to explain my vote?
Permission granted.
Thank you, Mr.
Majority Leader.
I would like to disclose for the record I am associated with the Parks Department.
Second, I want to congratulate Council Member Nurse for her staunch advocacy and for getting COPA to the finish line, and Council Member Marte on the passage of Intro 943.
That said, I do want to highlight the concerns raised by TWU and workers in the industry about the placement.
About job placement and particularly the lack of information on buyouts for medallion owners and the limited sunset period for an industry that has existed for over 160 years.
It is imperative that the administration implement
this law responsibly with a clear plan that prioritizes workers and addresses the economic impact on those who have dedicated their lives to this industry.
I want to thank Speaker Menon for her leadership and for getting these bills to the finish line.
I vote aye on all.
Maloney.
