Council Member Farah Louis speaks in support of Reso 625, which declares October as Reggaeton Heritage Month in New York City. She highlights the genre's Afro-Caribbean and Latin American roots.
Councilmember Lewis, followed by Wilson.
Thank you, Majority Leader.
Today we will vote on Reso 625, which declares October as a reggaeton heritage month in New York City.
Reggaeton is more than music.
It represents the rich history of Afro-Caribbean and Latin American communities with roots in Panama and a sound shaped by Puerto Rico, New York City, and the broader Caribbean diaspora.
This resolution honors and recognizes how their cultural contributions have grown into
a global phenomenon.
I want to thank Deputy Speaker Williams, Speaker Menon, and all the advocates who pushed to bring this resolution forward this month.
I want to sincerely thank the Legislative Division staff, Alejandro Cajaval, and Regina Paul for their work on the resolution and urge my colleagues to vote yes on Reso 625.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Seeing no one else signed up for resolutions, is that right?
Anyone else would like to speak on resolutions being voted on?
We will now have a voice vote on today's resolutions.
Just one second as we try to get the chambers in order.
Keep it quiet.
All right.
If you wish to vote against or abstain from any of today's resolutions, please notify the Legislative Documents Unit by email or by approaching the dais.
