Council Member Santosuosso introduces Stop Super Speeders bill and TLC surveillance bill
Council Member Kayla Santosuosso introduces the Stop Super Speeders bill, which requires speed limiting devices for drivers with 16 or more speeding violations in school zones. She also introduces legislation to prevent TLC-issued vehicles from using flock surveillance technology.
We will now move into general discussion.
We have eight folks signed up so far.
Councilmember Santos Suoso, followed by Hanif.
Thank you, Majority Leader.
Today, I was proud to introduce the Stop Super Speeders Bill, which completes a process started by,
thank you, which completes a process started in the state by State Senator Andrew Gernardis and Assemblymember Emily Gallagher,
which would require the installation of speed limiting devices in vehicles where the drivers have incurred 16
or more speeding violations in school zones and caught on camera within 12 months.
This is an important street safety bill.
And as someone who both walks and rides a bike and drives a car, I just want to clarify that this is a bill that keeps our streets safe for everybody and cracks down on our worst offenders
and is not targeted at anybody who, you know, gets one or two speeding tickets, as I'm sure many in this chamber have gotten.
And so I look to finally complete this process started by those leaders in the state by passing this bill and fully implementing the Stop Super Speeders bill.
And I encourage my colleagues to sign on, and I'll be circling around with you soon about that.
I also introduced legislation today to prevent TLC-issued vehicles from using flock surveillance-based technology, and I will be speaking with each of you about that soon.
And thank you to everybody that held my baby today.
I really appreciate it.
Appreciate it.
Thanks.
