Council Member Williams explains vote on COPA and horse carriage bill
Council Member Nantasha Williams thanks Council Members Lewis and Nurse. She notes COPA was amended from 10,000 to 2,100 buildings and hopes the transition period provides dignified lives for horses and workers. She votes aye on all.
Williams.
Permission to explain my vote.
Permission granted.
Thank you.
We are passing some really good legislation today, so I wanted to thank and congratulate Councilmember Farrah Lewis and also Councilmember Sandy Nurse.
And I just wanted to say that this bill was significantly amended from 10,000 buildings to only a mere 2,100.
And I know in my radical opinions, I would love for this to actually impact first single-family homeowners because we do also have a speculative market even in Southeast Queens.
So I just wanted to say this is a very moderated bill.
And last but not least, I really wanted to thank Speaker Menon for Romantia's law and making sure that we protect the workers.
And I do hope in the transition period that we can find a dignified life both for the horses and for the workers.
And with that, I vote aye on all.
Thank you.
Thank you.
