Chair asks what services are available for adjusted cases; Dessimore lists supports
Brooks-Powers asks what services are available to young people whose cases are adjusted. Dessimore describes mentoring, Saturday programs, employment, school support, parent coaches, and wraparound funds tailored to youth interests and victim considerations.
So I want to look at how the staff is assessing cases, again, making sure that we have enough staff in those key places and making sure that they are trained and we are doing
just overall in juvenile operations, we are going to be doing training and retraining of every staff and hopefully by March of next year, everyone will be in a good position.
And I'm happy that we have more staff coming out of the classes so that we can bulk up in those areas that are important because probation is the front door and we are, you know, we want to be able to
do what is necessary, help those young people connect with community-based organizations, services, whatever they need, so that they don't come through our door again.
And that's the whole point of it.
Thank you for that.
What services are available to young people whose cases are adjusted?
So we have, it depends, right?
Again, we want to know what that young person, their interests are, what is the nature of the offense, and try to target those services and interventions based on that, right?
We also want to take into account if there's a victim on the case, what their position is or what their feeling is to try to sort of make them whole, right?
We have mentoring for the young people.
We also have Saturday programs.
We also have employment.
We also support that young person with school if there's any educational needs.
We are making sure that we are addressing that.
And we also have services for the parent, right, because it's a challenging process.
I speak to parents all the time, and they are fearful, right, of the process, and they're fearful of their child and what this means for them, right?
So we have parent support and parent coaches for every parent from the beginning of intake throughout the probation process to make sure that.
They have someone to help navigate the system.
So whatever the young person needs, and if there's something that they're interested in, you know, we want to make sure that we're targeting.
