Goodwin reports academy optimization and graduation numbers
Goodwin says the probation training academy was optimized from 5.1 months to 3.5 months while meeting state mandates. She says two academies graduated 57 officers this year, with about 50 more expected in December and four additional academies scheduled for 2027.
Our probation training academy has been strategically optimized from 5.1 months to 3.5 months, while maintaining compliance with the New York State training mandates and regulatory requirements.
So far this year, we have conducted two probation academies, graduating 57 officers with roughly another 50 candidates expected to graduate in December.
In total, this amounts to almost 100 more offices joining the Department of Probation Family in 2026 when we need them the most.
Combined with four additional academies scheduled to be completed in 2027, my hope is that we will be almost fully staffed by the end of next year.
