Narcisse emphasizes prevention and long-term relationships; Powell says turnover breaks relationships
Narcisse says prevention and early support in schools can save lives. Powell says probation must build long-term relationships with clients, but turnover from low pay interrupts those relationships and causes clients and families to suffer.
We need supportive programs.
And they're each unique.
And I heard one of you probably say that.
They are very unique.
Like I said, they go into something, but the unique things that they have, they're dealing with.
If they can have that corrected, you can have that child thrive.
I raised four kids.
It's just giving the time, each individual one, give them that support.
And the needs to get, sometimes it's so simple.
Because I have them that become my best friend while I'm doing the program.
Because just like I get to know them and to see where they need that support.
And call this nonprofit that they can get that little extra support.
Do you know we as probation officers have determined that a child just needs a pair of glasses?
Yeah.
And once we knew they couldn't see the board, we referred them into...
I took them to the doctor ourselves.
Or had the parents make arrangements to take them to go get their eyes checked or their teeth checked.
So, yeah, totally.
Yeah, like you said, the pair of glasses.
Maybe they're hearing.
They have frustration.
Maybe it was just like the family needed a little therapy to get them through life.
