Gibson announces Bronx Restore and Project RISE funding
Gibson announces $3 million for Bronx Restore and funding for Project RISE, totaling $6 million over two years across several Bronx precincts. She calls for supporting staff and applying the West Bronx Community Safety Coalition model to juvenile justice.
And I want to acknowledge Councilmember Pietina Sanchez mentioned it, and it's worth repeating as I close.
We've been able to work with Governor Kathy Hochul and DCJS, the New York State Department Division of Criminal Justice Services that oversees a lot of the criminal justice work in the state.
And we got $3 million for the Bronx Restore program over a two-year contract that was led with D.A.
Clark, with Councilmember Sanchez, as well as Project RISE, Respond, Invest, Sustain, and Empower.
And total, these two programs, two years, $6 million, spanning over the 4-0 precinct, the 4-6, and the 5-2, the South Bronx and the West Bronx, parts of your district in District 16.
We really have to do more to support the staff as well.
And I know the YDS staff.
the uniformed civilian staff, the healthcare professionals, the mental health workers,
Everyone is a part of this.
I am committed, Chair Stevens, as you know, anything I can do.
We started the West Bronx Community Safety Coalition on the west side of the borough.
We should take that and apply it to the juvenile justice system.
Because one thing I will say is it is a plan.
That we are implementing and executing and it's working.
When you look at a lot of the partners we've included in our- Thank you, Borough President.
I'm so sorry.
It's okay.
Thank you, Chair.
I was wrapping up.
Thank you.
Thank you, Chair Stevens.
I appreciate your time today.
Thanks so much.
Appreciate it.
Thank you.
I'm sorry.
I have to be strict and try to enforce the time because if not, I know we still have five more panels.
For the next panel, we will be calling up Elle Tatum, David Moss, Nikesha Francis, Amanda McCarthy, and Dominique McNally.
And while this panel is coming up, I want to just say shout out to the Bronx for showing up.
Our Bronx DA and her staff is still here.
Our borough president showing up.
I want to just highlight we are taking this serious and want to make sure that we are being acknowledged for all working together and being a part of this because we really want to see changes happen.
So thank you to our borough president and our DA.
