Gutiérrez asks about gynecological care and pregnant youth
Gutiérrez asks about gynecological care and whether any detained youth are pregnant. Ginsberg says there are seven young women, they receive trauma-informed medical care including gynecological care, and no pregnancies are known; basic care is in-facility and advanced care outside.
And my last question is for the females in detention.
Can you tell me a little bit about the gynecological care, if it's trauma-informed at all?
Are there any pregnant, detained youth?
What can you tell me about that?
Thank you, Chair.
So we have seven young women right now.
They receive regular medical, and that includes gynecological care.
All of our care is trauma-informed.
If they need additional care,
care they receive that they're taken outside of the facility for that we do not have any pregnant young women that I'm aware of.
Okay and the gynecological care is that at the sites or is that one of the examples where they're taken outside?
Basic care is done in the facility and more advanced care is done outside the facility.
Is gynecological considered advanced?
I'm just saying if you don't know, how do you expect these young women to know to ask?
Well, our medical, H&H provides our medical care, and they know, and we can get back to you in as much detail as you want as to how they handle that.
Okay.
I just, I would, I mean, we very briefly spoke with them, and I just want, like, I just think it's important for them to be surrounded with this information, whether or not it's, like, readily available, but, like.
I think it's important for them to know, like, if I'm requesting, if I want to see a gynecologist, I might have to be taken out of this facility versus not.
I think, like, knowing that information makes me either want to ask for that care or not.
Thank you.
And thank you for the concern about the health and well-being of the young people and the young women particularly.
I think what I will just add to the fact that we've got health partners that we're working with is we have case managers that are working with our young people on a day-to-day basis.
And so there's a few avenues for which young people can raise particular concerns.
addition to talking to the medical person in particular.
So thank you.
