Sanchez confirms Bronx Restore funding and asks about deputy mayor talks
Council Member Pierina Ana Sanchez says she is concerned about secure detention and thanks Clark for Bronx Restore and Project Rise. She asks about conversations with the new deputy mayor for community safety; Clark says they have met and she is encouraged.
The first time for everything.
We're not going there.
No, thank you.
Thank you, Chair.
I won't be able to stay for the whole hearing, so I just wanted to take a moment to state on the record that Chair Stevens is not alone.
own, but as evidenced by the council members who are here today, as evidenced by so many of us who have gone to Horizons, who've gone to Crossroads with her and are with her in this place of deep concern about secure detention in our city and our kids.
Bronx DA, I count myself as so fortunate to be able to work with you.
Thank you for the efforts to get us Bronx Restore over on Fordham Road in the 46th Precinct and in the 40th.
So I just wanted to ask a question, just confirming on the record, the funding for Bronx Restore came from the governor?
Yes.
Correct.
Okay.
Yes.
So, you know, just want to make sure that we continue to work together.
I'm already asking her for, you know, we got twin grants for the West Bronx in terms of Project Restore and the Bronx Restore and the Project Rise, both in the West Bronx.
So I'm already trying to make sure that we get her committed to funding it for another two years, even after the initial two.
So thank you for your work.
And then my question was just, how have your conversations been with the new deputy mayor of community safety?
Are you all talking about funding sources for the innovative work that you're doing?
We've met with them, and, you know, it's a process.
It's a new leadership, you know.
I've been the DA 10 years.
I've had four mayors, three mayors, whatever.
How many DOC commissioners, six police commissioners.
Like, you know, you've got to give people a minute.
So I am encouraged by what I'm hearing from the Office of...
community safety and willing to partner with them in any way I can to make sure we could do all that we can to get the Bronx safe, to keep the Bronx safe.
Thank you, DA.
Thank you, Chair.
