Stevens closes public testimony and adjourns hearing
Stevens closes public testimony, thanks community members, the ACS commissioner, DA staff, and attendees who stayed all day. She reiterates that the city is in a crisis, calls for urgency, thanks council members and officials, repeats the goal of getting 150 youth out by December, and adjourns the hearing.
Seeing no hands, I would like to take note that everyone can submit written testimony to testimonies at council.nyc.gov within 72 hours of the hearing.
I would like to extend my thanks and dedication to the community members who offered their testimony today.
Could we give a special shout out to our ACS commissioner who is still in the room listening to the testimony?
Could we give it up for her?
And oh, you're not supposed to clap in here.
I'm such a bad habit.
But yes, special shout out to her.
Special shout out to all these people who stayed the entire time, who was here since 12.
Also, we have the DA staff who's also still here.
And so I want to point this out.
It's like usually by the end of my hearings, it's usually me and my staff.
But this is an important topic.
And I want to reiterate, we are in a crisis.
So I need everyone to be moving at the expeditious rate as if it is a crisis.
And so we want to continue to work together, work as a community, because, again, every young person that is in secure detention is a failure on us as adults in this community.
So thank you, everyone, for showing up.
Thank you to all the council members who showed up because my committee is a tiny one because my committee is a tiny one.
But we had all these council members show up and a public advocate and the borough president to say that this is an important issue and they want to be heard and we want to work together and get this done and get 150 kids out of secure detention by December.
So thank you.
And with that, this hearing is dismissed.
Thank you.
