Stevens raises attorney laptop and video visit issues
Stevens says attorneys report they cannot bring laptops into Crossroads and Horizon and have had video-visit problems. Administration witnesses say attorneys can bring laptops with clearance, and that video-system issues were resolved with case-manager support.
Attorneys representing young people in the detention have told counselors that they are not allowed to bring laptops into Crossroads and Horizon.
Is this accurate?
If so, what is the policy?
And why was this adopted?
That is not accurate.
They can bring in their laptops.
They just need to get clearance.
So are they not getting clearance?
They should be getting clearance.
Because I had a number of attorneys who reached out to me who said that they have not been able to bring in their laptops and they feel like this is not fair representation and they have serious issues.
In addition to when they are trying to do even the...
I guess FaceTime video conversations because you've changed, I guess, providers multiple times that they've been having trouble with that as well.
Is that true?
I think when we changed systems, there were some attorneys who had trouble adjusting to the new system, but we had case managers who were available to walk them through it.
And those issues have been resolved.
Well, I don't think those should have been issues because we have to, you know, fair representation is really important.
So hopefully that won't happen again.
