Abreu and Restler discuss streetlight delays and future public realm hearing
Abreu agrees streetlight delays are a major issue and announces a public realm hearing in the coming months that will cover streetlights. Restler says installations often take 8-15 months after DOT approves an intersection analysis.
Thank you so much, Councilmember.
And, you know, these are conversations I've had with the commissioner regarding streetlights and the need to see and the eagerness on our part to see a change.
We will be having a hearing on public realm in the next few months that will include streetlights.
I'll just tell you, Chair, for your awareness, like...
We advocate for years to finally get DOT, to study an intersection, to analyze it.
They'll approve it.
And then it's another 8, 12, 15 months before the streetlight actually gets installed.
It took me a few years to get a streetlight to be placed in front of a dog run, literally for like three years.
And, you know, we will get to the bottom of this.
It's a big area.
It's related to crime.
It's related to street safety.
It's related to a host of other issues.
And you're right, Commissioner, getting the small things done restores our faith and, you know, our constituents'faith in government that we can also get the big things done.
So more on that to come in the next few months.
