Abreu outlines street safety investments and new tools
Abreu calls for fair and consistent enforcement across cars, motorcycles, e-bikes, mopeds, and micromobility, and continued investment in daylighting, safer intersections, protected bike infrastructure, and lower speed limits. He also wants to examine low-traffic neighborhoods and intelligent speed assistance.
Street safety requires fair, consistent enforcement that prioritizes the behaviors posing the greatest risk to New Yorkers.
Beyond enforcement, we must continue investing in improving street safety improvements, including daylighting, safer intersections, protected bicycle infrastructure, and lower speed limits.
We also want to examine new approaches, such as low-traffic neighborhoods and intelligent speed assistance technology, while ensuring that these initiatives are practical,
effective, and responsive to community needs.
The legislation before us today provides an opportunity to advance these conversations and consider additional tools to prevent dangerous driving and protect vulnerable road users.
