Abreu probes unresolved hit-and-run cases and CIS statistics
Abreu probes the share of hit-and-run cases not identified and asks about criminality breakdown. Rivera provides 212 CIS cases year-to-date, with 167 fatal and 77 criminal, and says arrests are progressing. Flynn says these are difficult cases and will provide more data.
And then, so what happened with the other 25% that weren't identified?
Why do you think that happened?
These are difficult cases.
I mean, by definition, the perpetrator, the person who caused the collision is not on the scene.
That presents significant challenges.
We use every tool at our disposal in order to try to identify those individuals, in order to identify those vehicles.
And as I said, that's a really extensive process.
We throw everything we possibly can at it.
Chief Obey, I don't know if you want to add any more to that.
So I'll go with the 26 numbers for CIS year to date through 1018, 212 CIS cases.
As we mentioned, the fatalities, 167 of the 212 were fatal and 45 of the 212 were non-fatal.
So these are just strictly CIS cases, 212 in 2026 year to date.
Year-to-date total criminal cases, 77 of the 212, about 36%, again, in conferral with the DA's office, were deemed to be criminal.
And total fatal criminal cases, the status is 63 of the 77, accounted for by 81% of all criminal CIS cases.
40 of the 63 are close to arrest.
And total non-criminal cases.
This 14 of the 77, 9 of 14 are close to arrest.
