Abreu questions NYPD on August hit-and-run cases
Abreu cites nine hit-and-run deaths in August 2026 and asks how many recent cases have been resolved. Flynn says investigations can take six months or longer, cannot speak to specific cases, and will follow up with information.
In August 2026, there was a string of deadly road violence in New York City that brought renewed scrutiny to the city's Vision Zero efforts.
Tragically, hit-and-run drivers killed nine people in the month of August, including three cyclists in just three days.
And just this past week, a man riding an e-bike was hit and gravely injured by a hit-and-run driver in Crown Heights.
How many of these recent hit-and-run cases have been fully investigated and resolved by NYPD?
So, Mr.
Chairman, as I said, these cases are very extensively investigated.
Those investigations can take up to six months or longer.
So looking at those timelines, those investigations are likely to be ongoing.
I can't speak to any specific investigation.
What I can say is that CIS does thorough investigations of all of those cases and delivers the results they find.
So all the investigators are currently being investigated.
I can't speak to any of those specific investigations.
What I can do is we can look into those and come back to that information for you.
