Alejandro Grajales supports Intro 613 after 10 years delivering
Alejandro Grajales, a delivery worker for over 10 years and organizer with the Workers Justice Project, supports Intro 613. He says workers face traffic, dangerous intersections, and disrespect from drivers, and need protected bike lanes, charging, parking, and rest spaces. He invites officials to spend an hour delivering.
Hello.
Good afternoon.
Majority Leader Sean Abreu and everyone here today.
My name is Alejandro Grajales, and I have been a delivery worker in New York City for over 10 years.
I'm also an organizer with Worker Justice Project.
I'm here today to support Intro 0613.
After more than 10 years making deliveries, I know how dangerous our streets can be.
Every day, workers have to deal with traffic, dangerous intersections, and drivers who don't respect us.
That's why we need more protected bike lanes, safe places to charge.
And park our bikes and spaces where workers can take a break.
We need safer streets, no more tickets or punishment for workers who are just trying to make a living.
But today, I also want to make any...
An invitation to all of you.
Come and visit our center.
Talk to the workers.
Listen to what they go through every day.
And even better, I invite you to spend just one hour, one hour making delivery with us.
Get on a bike, ride through the city and see what our working conditions are really like.
I believe that one hour on the street can teach you more than many hours sitting in meetings talking about our problems.
We are not asking for anything special.
We are just going to do our jobs and make it home safely for our families.
Thank you so much.
You have me for an hour.
Next.
