Bubakar Barry testifies on unfair delivery account deactivations
Bubakar Barry, a delivery worker for three years, testifies about unfair account deactivations. He says workers are deactivated without being told what rule they violated, that he was deactivated twice, and that Uber and other apps do not ask for the worker's side. He calls on the Council to address job losses.
Thank you so much.
Good afternoon.
Thanks so much for giving me time, opportunity to testify.
Hello, I'm Bubakar Bari.
I have been a delivery worker here in New York for three years.
I want to share my experience.
Delivery workers are frequently having their account deactivated without even knowing what they supposedly did wrong.
I have personally had my account deactivated twice, both times without being told what rule I allegedly violated.
Sometimes, when we arrive to make a delivery, we encounter an intoxicated customer who later files a false report against the delivery worker.
Meanwhile, Uber and other apps don't even bother to ask the worker for their side of the story.
We simply proceed to deactivate the account.
We are calling of the city council to look into the issue as people are losing their job every single day.
I am currently out of work because my account was deactivated, which I devastated.
given the high daily and monthly living expenses here in New York City.
For instance, for example, Grohop deactivated my account.
I spoke with one of their representatives who admitted that the deactivation was a mistake.
Yet, my account has still not been restored.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
