Dinowitz requests enforcement on bus lanes and Gun Hill Road
Dinowitz says bus stops on 231st Street and Gun Hill Road are repeatedly blocked and automated enforcement is not enough. He requests manual enforcement to keep traffic moving, especially as the city considers a rezoning on Gun Hill Road.
I want to go back to enforcement.
I would just like to note here that at 231st Street,
We've had meetings with DOT, NYPD, MTA about enforcement on 231st Street and Broadway
regarding cars parked or standing in the bus stop, contributing to a significant amount of traffic, slowing the buses down, which I know is a big priority of this administration and of my community members.
And the response we got was, well, we'll do some enforcement, but we have automated bus enforcement, so we don't really need to.
That was sort of the message that I got.
Every time I go by there, there is at least one car or truck or cart in the bus lane.
I'm requesting here at this hearing enforcement.
I'm also requesting enforcement on Gun Hill Road.
Where you installed a new bus lane.
And we warned you people would be parking in double parking, clogging up traffic.
The DUT told us it wouldn't happen.
Of course it's happening.
We're requesting enforcement on Gun Hill Road to make sure traffic runs smoothly, especially, if I could just finish the thought, Chair, especially as we are considering a rezoning.
On Gun Hill Road to provide much needed housing to our city and to our community.
One of the big holdups is the traffic.
When there is no enforcement,
It makes traffic work and it disincentivizes a community from getting on board to building additional housing and a denser neighborhood.
So I cannot impress upon you how important it is for you all to be responsive to our community, to take our needs into consideration.
Thank you.
Thank you, Chair.
Thank you, Councilmember.
We have Councilmember, first I'd like to recognize we've been joined by Councilmember Juan, Councilmember Ressler, followed by Juan.
