Banks asks if sponsors could handle ADA accessibility projects faster
Banks says many centers are not ADA accessible and asks if giving money to a sponsor would be faster and more efficient. Fradkin says if the work rises to capital level, such as making bathrooms or spaces wheelchair accessible with structural changes, NYCHA would manage it. A ramp outside the center might be covered by the provider.
And the reason why I say that, because I know that it was said that the ADA accessibility, a lot of the centers are not ADA accessible.
Is that a project you think we should be better served if we were able to give the monies to a sponsor and it would be done much quicker?
Efficient.
It depends on the level of work that is needed.
So all seniors, all older adults can be able to have access to these government-funded centers.
If the work that's needed rises to the level of capital work, so making the bathrooms or other spaces wheelchair accessible or accessible in other major ways that require
changes to the floor plan or to major structural, requires structural work within the center, that is work that NYCHA would manage.
If it's a ramp outside the center, that's something perhaps the provider could cover.
All right, thank you.
