Zhuang asks whether OAC participants live in the NYCHA facility or travel
Zhuang asks whether older adults typically live in the NYCHA facility where the OAC is located or travel from elsewhere. McKenzie says NYC Aging wishes more participants were residents of the NYCHA facilities, but there has been a dip in participation from people living in the building. Centers are serving more of the surrounding community, and NYC Aging convened tenant association meetings to address barriers.
Do these older adults typically live in NITRA facility, which the OAC is located, or do some travel from other locations such as NITRA facility or private housing?
We wish there were more participants that are residents in the NITRA facilities, but we have noticed that there's a dip in the participation from persons that are living right in the building.
And these centers are servicing more of the surrounding community, which is one of the reasons why we convened the first ever meeting along with the Tenant Association, so that we could work together to boost those numbers and find out what are the barriers to
people that are right in the same building coming down to our centers.
