Chair Hudson asks about 40-hour and 8-hour training completion

New York City Council · Oct 28, 2026 · starts 2:15:52 · 1 min 10 sec

Hudson asks if all security guards received required training. Priester says 82% received 40-hour training as of September 1, 2026, and 542 completed the 8-hour refresher.

Crystal Hudson

And has every security guard working in a DHS shelter received the 40 hours of training and the eight-hour annual refresher as required by the law?

Valvunch Priester

82% of our security guards received the 40-hour training.

Crystal Hudson

82% received the 40-hour training.

Valvunch Priester

As of the September 1st, 2026.

Valvunch Priester

Okay.

Valvunch Priester

I just want to add to that, right?

Valvunch Priester

Yeah.

Valvunch Priester

DHS do have a police, our police officer academy do work to make sure that we are conducting training sessions to try to help with compliance.

Valvunch Priester

We did do two trainings in October from October 12th to 16th and October 19th through 23rd.

Valvunch Priester

And we do have an upcoming training session from November 9th through 13th to help further assist with that compliance.

Valvunch Priester

We got in the eight hour.

Crystal Hudson

Required refresher.

Valvunch Priester

DHS currently tracks completion.

Valvunch Priester

So we're in the process of enhancing our report to make sure that we are also tracking completion versus non-completion as well.

Crystal Hudson

So you do or do not have the current numbers for completion?

Valvunch Priester

We do have the current numbers for completion.

Valvunch Priester

Okay, can you share that?

Valvunch Priester

And the current numbers for completion is 542.
