Q&A

Narcisse and Jimenez on enrolling uninsured patients at hospitals

New York City Council · Oct 28, 2026 · starts 0:24:57 · 1 min 56 sec

Narcisse asks how H&H promotes the program to uninsured patients who come to a hospital. Jimenez says H&H will never turn anyone away and will figure out insurance applications in parallel, and Long urges everyone to remember 646-NYC-CARE.

Mercedes Narcisse

So my follow-up.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

Yes.

Mercedes Narcisse

So if someone come in a hospital, they don't have any insurance at all.

Mercedes Narcisse

So right there, they can be assessed right there.

Mercedes Narcisse

They don't have.

Mercedes Narcisse

So how do we promote for folks to just come and find out?

Mercedes Narcisse

Like, where are you at?

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

Yeah, as Dr.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

Long said, the goal is to connect every single New Yorker to health care.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

And we want to make sure that if they're eligible for insurance, we enroll them.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

And so that's the first step.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

But it's not a barrier.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

We always tell people in the community, our community organizations, anyone that we get in touch with, come to us.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

If you need care, we will not turn you away.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

We will take care of you no matter what, no matter your immigration status or your income.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

And we'll figure out the process of applying for health insurance at the same time in parallel.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

These pathways are for people who are having the forethought, they're planning, right, they're calling, they already know they want a primary care appointment.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

Well, we can start that process.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

As they have those documents available.

Mercedes Narcisse

So basically, if you call on the phone, you want to be seen by a doctor, so their role, or whoever received calls, however, is to come in, we'll care for you, and we'll find out whatever else.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

And in fact, when you call our call center, before you complete the process of enrollment, they ask you,

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

where and when you would like to make your primary care appointment.

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

Because the point is, can we get folks connected to primary care?

Dr. Jonathan Jimenez

Every single New Yorker, that's the goal.

Mercedes Narcisse

Thank you.

Dr. Ted Long

So if you remember one thing from Dr.

Dr. Ted Long

Jimenez and me today is, however many numbers it is, 10 numbers.

Dr. Ted Long

646-NYC-CARE is the one number to remember, the one number you can share with everybody.

Dr. Ted Long

It's the one-stop shop for everything we're going to talk about today.

Mercedes Narcisse

Six foot.

Mercedes Narcisse

You can repeat it again for people watching to know that.

Dr. Ted Long

646-NYC-CARE.

Mercedes Narcisse

Okay, we're promoting it.

Mercedes Narcisse

We have been joined by CM Sanchez.
