Sidahmed says he is gathering FY26 data and meeting publishers
Sidahmed says he started earlier this month and has already heard from many publishers. He is gathering data from media buyers and agencies to compile the FY26 Local Law 83 report and understand where spending stands.
I started in this role earlier this month.
In this short time, I've already heard from many publishers.
I hope to spend the first few months of my role hearing their concerns, as well as any concerns internally from government agencies about the obstacles they encounter in meeting their obligations.
I am also gathering data from the city's media buyers and the agencies to compile the FY26 report on Local Law 83.
That report will help us better understand where the city stands, where progress has been made, and where we need to do more.
I am approaching this work with a clear-eyed understanding of the challenges and a recognition of what this law has already made possible.
Throughout the country, attempts to replicate this law have struggled to move from legislative ambition to effective implementation.
New York City has spent five years building the infrastructure to make this law work, directing millions of dollars in advertising.
to community and ethnic media.
Those are real results.
Without that investment, who knows how many community institutions that help New Yorkers stay informed might no longer exist.
I am grateful to the people who built this office before me and to you, the City Council, for your continued interest in this office and this law.
This sustained engagement is necessary if we are to ensure that Local Law 83 succeeds.
I'm incredibly excited about what the future holds for community and ethnic media here in New York and what role this office can play in ensuring that it continues to thrive.
I'd be pleased to answer your questions.
