Q&A

Chair Lee questions COLA and rate increases without new RFPs

New York City Council · May 28, 2026 · starts 5:17:41 · 1 min 10 sec

Before yielding to colleagues, Lee asks whether COLAs or rate increases can be addressed without new RFPs. Officials say they need to consult with their contracting agency and will follow up, as Lee notes this could be a way to increase provider funds.

Linda Lee

You said it's the IRC?

Linda Lee

The IRC.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Linda Lee

Thank you.

Linda Lee

Okay, so I'm going to take a break so I can let some of my colleagues ask some questions.

Linda Lee

I'll have Linda.

Linda Lee

Sure.

Linda Lee

Actually, before that, I just had a really, really quick clarifying question on the RFP question that the chair just asked because

Linda Lee

While I know there's pros and cons to not issuing out new RFPs, I guess my main concern, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that it also doesn't allow for new rates and increases, right?

Linda Lee

So I'm just wondering if there's something baked in or a process where COLAs or the rates per case and those types of things will be increased or looked at.

Speaker

For that, we're going to have to circle back with you.

Speaker

We're going to have to consult with our contracting agency to get more details on that.

Linda Lee

Okay, that would be great.

Linda Lee

Because if there's a way where we could address that issue, even if there's no new RFP, I think that would be great.

Linda Lee

Because I know that that could be a way to increase some of the funds that they're getting.

Linda Lee

So, okay.

Linda Lee

We have Councilmember Joseph followed by Brewer.
