I have a question about security guard compensation.

The new local law requires private sector security guard employers to meet government contract wage standards.

What outreach is DCWP conducting to ensure that employers are aware of and prepared for these requirements before?

The effective date of the law?

Well, I appreciate the question, Council Member.

We were very proud as an administration to support this bill, to support the council override.

Not only is this going to be a critical milestone for security guards, but it's going to open the door to other potential efforts by the city to raise private sector minimum wages.

New with respect to outreach, the minimum wage portion of the bill, the law, takes effect, I believe, January 1st.

Our plan is to partner closely with, in particular, 32BJ to make sure that, and I know they're going to be very active in getting the word out, we want to work with them closely to get the word out.

And we're going to be enforcing the law aggressively to make sure that even if workers might not know, we'll have partners out there who can make sure to bring violations to our attention so we can hold those employers accountable.

I think approximately the industry represented about 70,000 workers, the last number I checked, but I think this is something as we implement that will ensure that we have a full understanding of the universe of the industry.
