New York City Council · May 29, 2026 · starts 3:34:22 · 1 min 41 sec

Aldebol asks whether DCWP is expanding staffing enough to educate consumers, workers, and businesses. Ortiz describes aiming for 760 outreach events annually, up from 600, with 3 new community affairs positions.

Shirley Aldebol

Thank you, Chairs.

Shirley Aldebol

And I just want to echo what everyone else has said.

Shirley Aldebol

You are certainly a lean, mean fighting machine.

Shirley Aldebol

I do have a question about community outreach and outreach to businesses and to workers.

Shirley Aldebol

And are you expanding?

Shirley Aldebol

Staffing and given all the worker protection laws and consumer laws,

Shirley Aldebol

are you expanding enough to have capacity to be able to educate consumers, workers, and businesses?

Shirley Aldebol

On what their obligations are and what their rights are.

Sam Levine

Sam Levine

I'll turn it over to our Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs.

Carlos Ortiz

Carlos Ortiz

Carlos Ortiz

We've also, I think, dramatically improved our ability to connect with New Yorkers over social media, digital media, press.

Carlos Ortiz

I think we've

Carlos Ortiz

We want to, following the direction of our commissioner, making sure that New York City workers, consumers, small businesses understand the role of this agency and how we can serve them.

Carlos Ortiz

And we only want to make that grow over the years to come.
