CM on Broadway capital plan and public bathrooms
An unknown council member asks if the Broadway redesign is fully funded and whether public bathrooms and water fountains will be included. Flynn confirms funding and says EDC will announce a public toilet vendor soon.
Is the capital plan for Broadway fully funded at this point, the redesign of Broadway?
Broadway and Manhattan.
Manhattan.
Sorry, my borough.
My understanding is that the certain segments of it are funded and moving ahead as capital projects.
Right.
You mean when you say the full quarter, you mean?
You mean the 34th down to Union Square, the redesign.
Yes, that's fully funded.
That's fully funded.
And is that included?
I know you're going to do two new kiosks in there, and those are going to have public water, have publicly available water fountains too?
Yeah, that is the plan.
Yeah, and we talked about having a publicly available bathroom in that.
Is that in the new bathroom plan?
Do you anticipate having a publicly available restroom available?
I'm not sure.
I'd have to check and get back to you.
Yeah, it's something, you know, obviously we talked, the mayor's talked a lot about, you know, especially with the Madison Park right there, 23rd, Flatiron area.
We'd really like to see a publicly available bathroom in that location.
I hope that DOTU can commit to doing that.
Yeah, we understand this administration has been very committed to increasing access to public bathrooms, and so we'll just...
I have to check on that specific question.
And we're in active scoping, so this is the perfect time to have that conversation to make sure that the infrastructure is built for a public bathroom.
Yeah, I flagged it for your team.
I want to make sure, since the Capitol is there, I want to make sure the Capitol is available to put that infrastructure in place, including the bathrooms and the water fountains and the bottle fillers and all the public amenities that we would need in that part of the city.
And I'll mention on that topic, because I know it is front of mind for many of us on the public toilets.
I believe the new program that the mayor announced, that EDC should be announcing a selected vendor very soon.
So that program is going to be getting off the ground.
Great.
And that selective event will determine where in the city, what boroughs, what neighborhoods will have?
No, we'll be working DOT in some coordination with parks to figure out.
To figure that out.
Okay.
Thank you.
With public input, right?
Well, yeah.
I think based on where we're hearing these kinds of, yeah, these types of needs.
Thank you.
Thank you, Chair.
Thank you.
Deputy Speaker?
