Q&A

Lee on camera revenue neighborhoods and violation error rates

New York City Council · May 29, 2026 · starts 0:34:46 · 1 min 5 sec

Lee asks which neighborhoods saw highest camera revenue increases and what the error rate is for violations. Flynn says they don't have that data today but describes a robust review process.

Linda Lee

Does DOT expect, oh, what neighborhoods have seen the highest increase from camera revenue?

Mike Flynn

We don't have that information with us today.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Linda Lee

Were cameras moved with the aim of increasing, hold on, what is the error rate, sorry, what is the error rate for red light camera violations?

Linda Lee

Do you have that information?

Mike Flynn

Sorry, what do you mean by that exactly?

Linda Lee

If there are, for example, if there's a car that mistakenly got this or there's a license plate, I'm just trying to figure out if there are any errors and what that percentage would be.

Mike Flynn

Okay, we have a very robust review process where we have a city employee reviewing each and every violation before it is issued.

Mike Flynn

We have an extremely high rate, like we don't receive them back in error, and we can get you the exact percentages.

Linda Lee

Okay, and what is the process actually for the violation review?
