Won on new daylighting funding from Mamdani administration
Won asks whether new dollars have been added for hardened daylighting by the Mamdani administration. Beaton explains the new bus and bike lane funding includes hardened daylighting as part of those projects, though not as a separate line item.
Thank you so much, Chair Lee.
So I want to break it down a little bit further.
So when it comes to a road, an intersection is usually four corners, and you're repeatedly saying it's $10,000 for an intersection.
But then you're saying that the intersection is a location.
There are eight per intersection.
So now you're redefining intersection, which we constantly feel like there's a lot of disagreement on.
Then it's less than $3 billion, even with that calculation as well, $3 billion.
So in relation to the mayor campaigning, is there a new...
Are there new dollars added to this current administration for harder daylighting, yes or no?
Because at the last budget hearing, you said that the only daylighting funding that you have is a rollover from...
The Eric Adams administration.
Well, I just, I mean, I want to start by saying that I apologize if there's been any miscommunication or misunderstanding around how we're defining or how we're laying out the costs.
You know, as I mentioned earlier, we're here in good faith to work with you to figure out the best pathway forward on daylighting.
On cost, you were asking about cost, Councilmember?
Yeah, as new funding been added by the Zoran M.
M.
D.
Administration for daylighting, because at the last hearing, the only amount of dollars for hardened daylighting was from the Eric Adams'administration.
So are there any dollars added?
So there was a tremendous amount of money added to our budget.
It's primarily being called bus lane and bike lane.
But as part of a lot of those projects, we do include hardened daylighting as part of the safety treatment we bring to the corridor.
For example, most of our protected bike lanes include hardened daylighting going down the corridor to make sure that there's visibility for turning vehicles to be able to see cyclists.
So it's not called out as a separate line item, but the city is very much committed to and is funding these safety improvements.
So what is the dollar amount that you're going to set aside for hardened daylighting in your new added budget?
