Our understanding is that these savings are usually taken from vacant salaries, and are you planning on not hiring additional?

I know that you said the number of hires has increased, so wanted to know when you expect the next NYPD class and will be similar size as recent classes.

Trying to end the year at our new authorized headcount.

So we're going to be hiring approximately, I think just shy of 4,000 officers this year to get to that number based on our expected attrition.

So,

I can speak to you.

And those accruals, those are not reflecting any delay in hiring.

Essentially,

As you can imagine, when you have a workforce of over 35,000 people, we make assumptions about looking at attrition, who's going to leave what salary.

But over time, if more people with higher salaries leave for a certain period of time or whatever the mix is, in addition to

differentials and things like that, it can add up quickly in terms of just adjustments to this is what we assumed we were going to need to cover all the salaries for X number of people.

Those same number of people can remain employed in terms of the assumption of who's coming on, but you have people at maybe higher levels leaving.

It's a mix.

And you're off a little bit, and it allows for adjustment.

Sometimes it unfortunately goes the other way, right?

So this is just reflecting where we are right now.

Yeah, so I'll add that if our assumptions are correct,

about how many resignations we'll see and how many retirements we will see this year than we should end the year at the authorized headcount based on the hiring plan.

And of course, with the council's help, raising the maximum age for which someone can take on the noble job of becoming a New York City police officer.
