Chair Krishnan on total positions affected by cost-saving mandates

So another, you testified as well about given the current cost savings mandates and you spoke about the vacancy positions and other positions.

Can you just give a total amount of with the cost saving mandates in place and the

pegs over the years that have happened and the cuts that have happened.

What, in total, how many positions are going to be affected by the efforts to meet the cost-saving mandates in place?

You broke it up over nine positions, vacancies, but I'm just looking for a total number of how many positions would be affected in one way or another.

Well, we'd have to cut nine.

So currently, before the executive budget came out, there were nine positions that we would have been able to fill that we will now have to cut.

And so...

As I mentioned, this is particularly challenging right now because of the vacant positions we have are some critical positions in executive leadership, in very important IG positions, including the IG for the NYPD.

That we are trying to figure out how we will manage if we don't receive additional funds.

So nine positions affected, and then if you all don't get the $6 million to stabilize,

how many positions overall would be affected?

Is it just the nine, or is it other?

I think you mentioned as well there would be potential cuts to salaries of executive positions.

I mean, what are we talking about overall is the impact of not getting the funding that you all need?

Well, I think what we would do is the idea of lowering the salaries for certain positions is in order to try to minimize the number of vacant positions we have to cut and yet still meet the number, the target number.

I don't have a precise number for you of how many positions we would have to do.

We are kind of going through different scenarios, but we are, I will say we are hopeful based on our discussions with City Hall

that we won't have to make some of these decisions because we are hopeful that additional funding will be provided in the adopted budget.

And I want to get to that in a second too, but the point I'm trying to make is it seems to me that it's beyond the nine positions, that nine position vacancies that would be affected.

It seems to me in order to avoid losing those positions, a number of other positions and those salary lines could potentially be affected too.

Am I right?

Potentially, yes.

Dedicated and talented staff to be again doing more with less and working on higher caseloads and and just being required to

you know, conduct more investigations with fewer staff.
