Chair Lee presents DOI FY27 budget figures and headcount reduction concerns
Lee presents DOI's proposed FY27 budget of $53.7 million, a 0.7% decrease from the preliminary plan, and raises concerns about an 11-position vacancy reduction on an already diminished headcount.
On May 12, 2026, the administration released the executive financial plan for FY26-30 with a proposed fiscal 27 budget of $124.7 billion.

The Department of Investigations proposed fiscal 27 budget of $53.7 million represents 0.04% of the administration's proposed FY27 budget in the executive plan.
This is a decrease of $385,066 or 0.7% from the $54.1 million originally budgeted in the FY27 preliminary plan.
This decrease results from several actions, primarily the reduction of vacant positions and unspent salaries.
As of April 26, DOIs headcount was one less than their headcount at the end of December 2025.
An 11 position vacancy reduction has been levied onto a department that has lost substantial headcount and resources over the last few fiscal years.
Today, we look forward to discussing the impact that this will have on the department's operations and how we can work together to explore ways to restore the resources the department needs to carry out its responsibilities.
